It’s the end of an era for one of Grimsby’s greats – iconic jewellers G. Hewitt & Son has today announced Jonathan Hewitt, Great-Grandson of founder George, is retiring and will be closing the jeweller’s doors after a vividly rich 154-year history on Victoria Street. Marking the closure will be a never-seen-before sale featuring savings of 50% on all jewellery, including branded jewellery and silver pieces; 30% off Bremont watches; and 25% reductions on Tudor watches. The sale starts at 10AM on Saturday, 26 April.
Starting at the tender age of 16, Jonathan has been with the business for 50 years, in recent years he was joined by daughter, Christina as Head of Operations, making the duo the fifth generation of Hewitts to source and sell fine jewellery and time pieces to Grimsby and the county.
“We’ve had an astonishing run, 154 years is not a bad innings, is it?’ says Jonathan, “We were one of the first Rolex retailers in the UK, with our records showing Rolex sales as early as 1919. Fast forward to 2011 and G. Hewitt & Son briefly enjoyed one of the largest Rolex showrooms in the country.
